Welcome to another “Inspiring Transformations” blog post—the series where we spotlight before-and-after photos that show the power of a good remodel.

It’s December, when many of us hang stockings by the chimney with care. In the spirit of the holidays, we’re featuring some fun fireplace transformations to warm your heart.

Check out 12 fireplace and family room remodels from Timnath, Loveland, Windsor, Fort Collins and Red Feather Lakes in the B&A slider gallery below.

Fireplace and Family Room Remodels

(Before) The tired fireplace in this Timnath living room desperately needed a makeover. (After) In addition to updating the fireplace and surround, our team installed distressed alder beams across the ceiling, and built-in bookcases with diffused lighting to flank the new fireplace. (Before) A wall divided the original kitchen and sunken living room in this 1960s home, and the fireplace lacked character. (After) A new half wall opens up the space yet clearly defines the rooms, and the updated brick fireplace adds warmth and texture to the cozy living room. Check out more before-and-after photos from this Fort Collins remodel.

(Before) The original living room in this home on Lake Loveland lacked a focal point. (After) The new floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace creates an inviting gathering place for the whole family. Explore the full gallery of this award-winning project in “Northern Colorado Lake House.”

(Before) This one-story, ranch-style home in Fort Collins felt dark and wood-heavy. It also didn’t reflect the homeowners’ style. (After) By popping the roof and building a second story addition, everything about the home feels more modern, open and expansive. The high ceiling also allows the monolith fireplace to span two stories of the home, creating a bold accent wall that defines the kitchen and living room spaces. See the whole house remodel in “Second Story Pop Top.”

(Before) Our clients loved the bones of their mid-century modern home in Red Feather Lakes, especially the massive moss rock fireplace. But parts of their home were worn, outdated and didn’t reflect their style. (After) The updated great room celebrates mid-mod design. New custom door fronts were added to existing built-in shelves on either side of the fireplace to preserve hidden storage. The fireplace also received a long-overdue mantel—cast in noncombustible concrete, it could easily pass for a rustic beam of reclaimed wood. Learn more in “Mid-Mod Mountain Remodel.”

(Before) Hidden underneath stone veneer, the original brick fireplace and chimney were crumbling and needed repair. (After) The clean, simple lines of the newly built bookshelves and fireplace surround look original to the home and honor the style of this 1920 bungalow. The green arts-and-crafts accent tiles add interest to the living room, and are true to the Craftsman style. Tour the home, and meet the homeowners, in this VIDEO.

(Before) The existing bare-bones fireplace insert lacked personality in this Fort Collins basement family room. (After) The new moss rock fireplace with its rough-sawn timber mantel adds depth of texture and reflects the home’s western style. Read more about this Fort Collins renovation project in “Western Basement Remodel with Elevator.”

(Before) Another Fort Collins basement family room suffered from a hum-drum fireplace that lacked character. (After) The new fireplace surround adds a pop of color and personality to the space. Inviting tiles, slate blue shiplap, and a floating mantel create an appealing focal point in this modern farmhouse basement remodel. View the full project gallery in “Ultimate Basement Hangout.”

(Before) This partially finished basement in Old Town Fort Collins felt dark and dated. (After) HighCraft transformed the space into a light and bright family room with a functional fireplace, built-in storage, and modern aesthetic. Learn more about this whole house remodel in “Contemporary Craftsman Bungalow.”

(Before) The fireplace in the sunroom of this historic Prairie-style home had seen better days. (After) Our team preserved the original brick fireplace, and added custom cabinetry and shelving, to create a stunning focal point in the sunroom. Trim work on the fireplace surround deliberately mirrors the Prairie-style grid work on the windows of this painstaking renovation. Learn more about this Fort Collins remodel in “Prairie Style Historic Home.”

(Before) Our clients liked the layout of their living room, but were eager for some cosmetic changes for a fresh look. (After) After a fresh coat of paint, we added a box-style fireplace mantel and floating shelves in knotty alder, and created more contrast and interest with a subtle wallpaper. Explore the full photo gallery in “First Floor Refresh.”

(Before) The arched drywall niches from 2005 felt dark and dated. (After) Our team created a fully automated custom metal wall that includes shelving and storage, a natural gas fireplace surround with mantel, and a dedicated cabinet above the fireplace to house the television—all in a rich, monochromatic palette.
