There’s nothing like seeing before-and-after photos, side by side, to show the power of a good transformation. With all the summer sun, we can’t help but shine this month’s B&A spotlight on OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES in northern Colorado.
Check out some of our favorite outdoor retreats from Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud and Laporte in the B&A slider gallery below.
Outdoor Living Spaces
(Before) The enormous lakeside lot on the back of this Loveland home was hard to maintain and went largely unused. (After) The new pool house has 720 square feet of interior space, 320 square feet of covered patio, and 230 square feet of storage. In addition to the swimming pool and hot tub, the outdoor activity zones include a dining area, fire-pit seating, sunbathing area, private sand beach, and easy access to the lake. View more before-and-after photos, and a look inside the pool house.
(Before) A young family wanted to transform their 272-s.f. slab patio into an intimate gathering space. (After) The result is a cozy outdoor living area with multiple activity areas and impressive functionality. Explore all the bells and whistles packed into this small but mighty Berthoud home remodel.
(Before) This Fort Collins deck had too many split levels and stairs that made it a complicated and awkward space to hang out or entertain. (After) The new deck is a larger, safer, single-level space that doubles as a roof for the new three-season room. Check out the full renovation.
(Before) The outdoor living spaces of this waterfront property weren’t living up to its ideal location on Horseshoe Lake. The owners wanted their home to feel like a vacation getaway in their own backyard. (After) The result is a spacious lakeside retreat, inside and out, with enticing new places to unwind around every corner. Learn more about this Loveland home remodel.
(Before) Our clients’ stucco home in south Fort Collins was lovely, but their old redwood deck was small, warped and splintering. (After) Our team replaced the wood decking with more durable and attractive brick pavers. The upper terrace is now a lounge area with umbrella, sectional sofa and new exterior doors. The middle terrace is finally strong enough to hold the weight of a hot tub, and also large enough for a four-top dining table and barbeque grill. The new lower terrace is the perfect place to gather around the fire on chilly nights. View before-and-after photos of this and other Fort Collins exterior remodels.
(Before) Our clients didn’t like the shallow front stoop, turquoise green paint and blonde brick siding of their 1960s ranch-style home. (After) They love their new inviting front porch, covered seating area, and classic farmhouse color palette. See the full interior and exterior gallery of this Fort Collins home remodel.
(Before) When Mike and Debbie asked HighCraft to design and build their custom home in Fort Collins, they knew they wanted a lower patio and a second-floor terrace with fire features. (After) The lower patio includes an outdoor kitchen, open-air dining room, and lounge area with central fire pit. The upper balcony off the master suite provides private seating around a cozy fireplace. Both outdoor spaces can be accessed either through a single door, or through a movable wall of bifold doors for a more immersive indoor-outdoor experience. (Before) The upper deck of this home was an exposed heat sink, rendering it virtually unusable on hot summer days. (After) The custom metal canopy and screen offer privacy as they filter intense sunshine, creating an outdoor living space that can be enjoyed year round. The cutout shapes on the metal screens mimic leaves and vines, allowing filtered sunlight to gently dapple onto the decks below. (Before) The owners of this home in Old Town Fort Collins wanted to transform their basic backyard deck into a custom living space for relaxing and entertaining in every season. They also wanted to add a little more privacy between their deck and the neighbors’ yard, and some protection from the elements. (After) The result is an open and comfortable, yet private, outdoor living space that checks every box on the homeowners’ wish list. Colorado is known for its mild weather, but the high temps and ultraviolet rays of our harsh summer sun can be intense. To beat the heat on this deck, we built a timbered frame with a retractable Roman sail canopy, outdoor ceiling fan, and sheer-weave solar shades to preserve mountain views in this Laporte home remodel.
